My friends in the states continually ask me what I like about Germany. At this point it’s more than like, love would be more appropriate. I’m really attracted to the history in Germany, and evidence of the countries age is apparent in its beautiful architecture. Life here moves at a slower pace, and family time is really encouraged. Sunday is considered a family day and businesses are closed on this day.
There are ample amounts of bread, cheese, wine, coffee, and sausages, sausages, sausages. So much, there’s a whole aisle at the grocery store dedicated to this wonderful encased item. Food preparation is taken very seriously here in Europe. The “fast food” is what I would consider quality food. There are many farms in the area that produce bountiful seasonal ingredients.
Welcome to the Domäne Metchildhausen Entryway
Domäne Mechildhausen is a bio-farm (organic farm) about .5 miles/.80 km away from my house. Sure I get wafts of the manure stench on occasion, but I don’t mind. I like to call the odor: Darn Lucky You Live By a Bio Farm. The property has been existence since 1912. They offer fresh fruits and vegetables, local wine, a butcher, a baker, extensive cheese department and several restaurants. On the farm, they have horses, rabbits, donkeys, turkeys, chickens, and cows. My favorite part is the cafe. Once you have a table, lingering is encouraged. At first, I was really tempted to get coffee to go, but that’s not the culture. There are rarely to go cups anyway, unless you are in a touristy area. Taking the time to enjoy the scenery and friends is definitely worth the extra time. Slowing down has made me the most relaxed I have ever been, ever. Ever, Ever.
Warning: Relaxing takes practice. You will be tempted to move at a fast pace. Do not do it. Take your time soak it all in. Enjoy the scenery.
